About Kelsey
Who I Am
I grew up in Southern California where I developed a love for art at a young age. I first began to arrange colorful flower petals and leaves into symmetrical designs. I was then exposed to many different styles and mediums, finding a particular affinity for watercolor and painting in general. I attended Brigham Young University-Idaho and received a BA in integrated studio art. Since graduation I have been a member of the Idaho Watercolor Society, The American Impressionist Society,
Oil Painters of America, and American Watercolor Society. I currently reside in eastern Idaho with my husband and four sons.
What I Capture
I am fascinated by light and color and the way that they interact with each other. I am drawn to scenes of the rural landscapes around my home. Often storms will bring dramatic shifts in light and color that I want to capture and highlight. I find myself drawn to older buildings, the dilapidated stories so beautifully hidden in the Idaho landscape. I strive to collect color palettes from these scenes around me, reflecting some of the literal interpretation but occasionally pushing colors to bring more drama or tell a story within a piece.
My Goals
I strive to give my collectors the best experience I can by studying what I think creates the most intriguing paintings. I often find myself going back to the basics, shape, line color, value, etc. I really value the influence of other artists like John Singer Sargent, N.C. Wyeth, Gustav Klimt, Albrecht Mucha, Allie Zeyer, Scott Christensen, Erin Hanson, Teal Coke Blake, Minerva Teichert and Teddi Parker. As I study what makes a great piece of art from these artists masterpieces I feel like I learn something about humanity. It is truly a pleasure to study visual storytelling and attempt to covey stories and emotions through impressionistic interpretation of our world.
